WATCH THE CONSUMERS
This may be our favourite anecdotal data point when it comes to judging consumer behaviour and market euphoria. It shows the average price of high end watches over time. Note two things: 1) the height of the bubble that formed in 2021; and 2) that we haven’t found a bottom yet. We think this runs in parallel with a lot of other assets that saw parabolic growth in the COVID era.

We lost an investing legend this month with the passing of Charlie Munger. At 99 years of age, he accomplished more than most, both via his contributions to Berkshire Hathaway, and the widespread wisdom he imparted on the world. There is no shortage of data that suggests that the classic view of retirement is bad for health, and likely bad for the economy as well. Still, each person needs to find their own path and wrestle with a system that isn’t ideally suited to workers continuing past traditional retirement ages.
